Waterfall
The Nieuwoudtville Waterfall, situated on the Doorn River, is 7km north of Nieuwoudtville on the R357 (Loriesfontein Road). This 90m waterfall is a spectacular sight when water thunders down into the deep pool during our rainy season.
Giant Postbox
It has been described as, “the mother of all post boxes” and became the hottest most photographed attraction in Calvinia. It was originally an old water tank that was converted into a post pox in 1995 and could very well be the biggest post box in the world.
Museum
The Calvinia Museum is housed in the old Jewish Synagogue built in 1920. You will find items related to sheep farming and the lifestyle of the early European settlers exhibited in the Calvinia Museum. It also houses the Calvinia Tourism Office which arranges local walks and activities.

Rieldans in the Karoo
The rieldans is considered to be one of the oldest dance form in South Africa and originated from the San people. It is a widely practiced dance throughout the Karoo, and it is taught to children from a young age. You’ll most likely see this dance at any festival or day show in the region – for example, the Winterfees in the nearby town of Williston or the Hantam Vleisfees in Calvinia.
